Switching guide
How to switch from Hive Inspect to Househound
Short answer
Hive Inspect's subscription agreement gives you no stated right to export your data and says Hive may delete it a reasonable period after you cancel, so ask Hive support for your exports and save the report PDFs you need while your plan is still active. Rebuild your template in Househound from a PDF of a recent Hive report, which Autodraft reads into a draft template and comment library for you to review. The contacts CSV from Hive imports as clients and agents, and saved report PDFs go into Househound's read-only past-report archive. Services and your calendar don't import.
What comes over from Hive Inspect
- TemplatesImports
Hive doesn't publish a template export. Import a PDF of a recent Hive report on the Templates page, or any spreadsheet Hive support sends you; Autodraft reads it into a draft template of areas, items and comments for you to review. Up to 10 files at once, 20 MB each.
- Comment libraryImports
Built from the comments in the file you import and added to your company comment library. Only comments in that file come over, so use the longest report you have.
- Report branding and logoSet up fresh
Upload your logo, company details and report footer in Settings. Househound has one report design and a "Powered by Househound" line on every report.
- Clients and agentsImports
Ask Hive support for your contacts as a CSV, then in Househound go to People → Clients or Agents → Import contacts… You map the columns, and a contact whose email is already saved is updated, never duplicated. Web only.
- Past reportsImports
Save the PDFs you need from each published Hive report before you cancel, then upload them to the past-report archive (Reports → Archive → Past reports): read-only, searchable, shareable. They don't become Househound inspections.
- Services and feesSet up fresh
Not imported. Start from the starter service library (about 35 services) or enter your own, then add price rules for square footage, bedrooms or units. There are no travel fees, weekend pricing or discount codes.
- AgreementsImports
Upload your agreement file (PDF, DOC, DOCX, RTF, TXT or MD, up to 15 MB) to show on the signing page, and paste its text into the editor if you want merge fields. Text isn't pulled out of the file for you.
- Email wordingSet up fresh
Househound has about 27 editable client and agent emails with merge fields and a live preview. Copy your Hive wording in by hand. Email only: there are no text messages.
- Booking pageSet up fresh
Set your start times, services and crew rules, then link to your booking page or embed it on your site. Bookings arrive as requests you approve.
- PaymentsSet up fresh
Connect a Stripe account through Househound. Card payments carry one 3.25% + 40¢ fee that includes Stripe's processing. Your Hive payment history stays in the Stripe account Hive used.
- Team membersSet up fresh
Invite each inspector and set their role and permissions. The first seat is $99 a month and each added inspector is $69 a month (or $990 and $690 a year on annual billing).
- Calendar and scheduleSet up fresh
Not imported, and there's no Google Calendar sync. Enter upcoming inspections by hand, or let jobs already booked in Hive finish there.
Step by step
Step 1: Ask Hive Inspect support for your exports
Hive's subscription agreement says you keep ownership of your data, but it has no clause giving you an export when you leave, and it says Hive "may delete Customer Data after a reasonable period" after you cancel, without defining the period (Hive Inspect subscription agreement, sections 3.1 and 8.4). So ask while your plan is active.
Write to Hive support (chat in the dashboard or support@hiveinspect.com; Hive says support answers 7 days a week) and ask for:
- your contacts (clients and agents) as a CSV
- your earnings and metrics spreadsheets
- each template, in any file they can produce
- a bulk copy of your published report PDFs, if they can provide one
Hive's changelog lists CSV exports for contacts and earnings and spreadsheet exports from metrics (Hive changelog), but its help pages don't give the menu path, so ask support where to find them in your account.
Step 2: Save the report PDFs you need
Hive publishes no bulk download of past reports. Hive's FAQ says a published report can be downloaded as a PDF from its online link (Hive Inspect FAQ), so open each report you must keep and save its PDF. Start with the reports your state requires you to retain, then any recent ones a client or agent might ask about.
Keep the PDFs in your own storage, with a second copy. Hive's FAQ says published reports are stored with no expiration date, but once you cancel, the agreement allows deletion after a reasonable period.
Step 3: Create your Househound account
Sign up on the web at househoundusa.com/signup. Your first 3 reports are free and there's no card to enter.
Step 4: Import a recent Hive report on the Templates page
In the Househound web dashboard, open Templates, click Import, and drop in a PDF of a recent Hive report (or click to choose it). During setup, the templates step opens with Bring your own template, which does the same thing.
Pick a long report with many findings in every section: a template built from a report only knows the comments that report contains. If Hive support sent you a template as a spreadsheet, a Word .docx or a JSON file, import that too; Househound reads any spreadsheet and maps its columns, and reads a Word or JSON file the way it reads a PDF. Up to 10 files go in at once, 20 MB each, and each file becomes its own template.
Step 5: Review the draft template and comment library
A template read from a PDF is a draft. Check that each Hive section has an area, the items are in your order, the wording is yours, and each deficiency has the severity you'd give it. Hive and Househound both use 3 severity levels, so mapping them is direct: Househound calls them major, moderate and minor.
Every comment lands in your comment library. Autodraft reuses those comments when it turns your spoken notes into drafted findings, and nothing reaches a client until you save it.
Step 6: Import your contacts and upload past report PDFs
On the web, go to People → Clients → Import contacts… (or People → Agents) and choose the contacts CSV from Hive. CSV and Excel files both work, up to 5,000 rows and 5 MB. You map each column (name, email, phone, company, type, notes), and if the file has a type column, rows marked as agents become agents. A contact whose email is already saved is updated, never duplicated, and every skipped row is listed with the reason.
Then open Reports → Archive → Past reports and upload the PDFs you saved, up to 50 at a time, 50 MB each. Househound reads the address, client, email and date from each PDF, and you can correct them. Archived reports are read-only: you can search, open, download and share them, but they don't become Househound inspections.
Step 7: Set up services, your agreement, emails, the booking page and Stripe
Add your services and fees and any price rules for square footage, bedrooms or units. Upload your agreement and choose when it goes out. Paste your Hive email wording into the client and agent emails. Set your booking start times and crew rules.
Connect Stripe from Househound's payment settings. Money goes straight to your Stripe account. Each client card payment carries 3.25% + 40¢, and that includes Stripe's processing, so it's one deduction. Collect any open Hive invoices in Hive before you leave.
Step 8: Write one real inspection in Househound with Hive still active
Use one of your 3 free reports on a real job, start to finish on the phone, and publish it. Both apps work without signal; in Househound, dictation recorded offline drafts once you're back online. Keep Hive for jobs already booked there.
Step 9: Move your booking link, then cancel Hive
Point your website's booking link at your Househound booking page, or paste the booking widget onto the page. Cancel Hive from Billing in your Hive account or by emailing support@hiveinspect.com (Hive Inspect subscription agreement, section 8.1). Cancelling takes effect at the end of your current term, and Hive gives no refunds for unused time, so on an annual plan cancel close to the renewal date. A Hive website plan is billed separately.
What doesn't carry over (and what to do instead)
Househound builds a template and comment library from your Hive files, imports the contacts CSV, and keeps saved report PDFs in a read-only archive. The rest is set up fresh, works differently, or has no Househound equivalent.
| Hive Inspect | In Househound |
|---|---|
| Earnings and metrics | Keep the spreadsheets from Hive support. They don't import. |
| Past reports | Upload the PDFs you saved to the past-report archive. They're read-only and don't become Househound inspections. |
| Spanish and French report PDFs | Spanish and French versions of every published report, translated automatically and turned on per company, each with its own PDF. English is the original that governs. Hive offers other languages on request and translates TREC reports to Spanish; Househound doesn't. |
| Repair Estimator | Not available. Househound doesn't suggest prices; Hive's Repair Estimator prices defects for you. |
| Cost to Cure table | Inspector-entered repair cost ranges on deficiencies, with an "Estimated repair costs" block totalled by severity. Turn it on in Settings. |
| Repair request builder | The client or buyer's agent builds a repair request from the published report and shares it as a link, copies it as text, downloads a CSV or prints it. |
| Text messages, QuickBooks, Mailchimp, Google Calendar | Not available. Househound sends email and has no integrations. |
| Florida and Texas forms | Househound has NPMA-33, TREC REI 7-6, Florida wind mitigation (OIR-B1-1802 Rev. 04/26) and the Citizens 4-Point. Hive also has Texas WDI, a Florida roof form and Florida WDO, which Househound doesn't. |
| Report lock until paid, Pay at Close | Not available. Househound can hold a report until the agreement is signed. |
| Travel fees, weekend pricing, discount codes | Not available. Price rules cover square footage, bedrooms and units. |
The Househound vs Hive Inspect comparison covers where each one is ahead.
Keeping old Hive Inspect reports
Save them as PDFs while your Hive plan is active. Hive's FAQ says you can still log in and view past inspections after you cancel, but the subscription agreement lets Hive delete your data after an undefined "reasonable period", and it promises no export.
If you have many reports, ask Hive support for a bulk copy before you cancel; Hive offers to import Spectora's Google Drive backups for people moving in, so it's a fair question in the other direction. Whatever they say, keep your own copies of the reports you're required to retain.
Househound can't turn old reports into inspections, but its past-report archive (Reports → Archive → Past reports, web only) holds the PDFs, searchable by address, client, email and date. You can open or download one, email it to the client, or copy a share link (valid 90 days, and you can turn it off).
If you run a team on Hive Inspect
On monthly billing the two cost the same: $99 for the first inspector and $69 for each one after that, so 3 inspectors are $99 + $69 + $69 = $237 a month on either. On annual billing Hive is cheaper for a team: $999 a year plus $599 per added inspector against Househound's $990 plus $690, so 3 inspectors are $2,197 a year on Hive ($999 + 2 × $599) against $2,370 on Househound ($990 + 2 × $690). Hive also has a new-inspector price ramp and a 10-report pack; Househound has neither.
Import the template once and invite your inspectors after, so everyone starts on the same comment library. Set what each person can do: create inspections, see team reports, edit the company library, manage members, settings, billing or payroll. Several inspectors can work in one report at once, and each finding shows who last edited it.
If you track pay splits in Hive, Househound's payroll records per-inspection pay (a flat rate or a percent of the job) and exports a CSV for your payroll provider. It records pay; it doesn't send money.
Hive Inspect-specific gotchas
- No export right in the contract. Hive's agreement (effective January 3, 2026, updated October 19, 2026) covers ownership but not export. Get your files before cancelling, not after.
- No template export published: A PDF of a report is the dependable source for your template.
- Translated reports: Househound offers Spanish and French, translated automatically, with the online report and the PDF both translated. A TREC report isn't translated, and there are no other languages, so if you rely on Hive's Spanish TREC or another language on request, plan for that.
- Repair prices: Househound's repair cost estimates are figures you enter. If you rely on Hive's Repair Estimator to price defects for you, Househound has no equivalent.
- Cancel timing: Cancellation takes effect at the end of the term with no refund for unused time.
Questions
Can I export my data from Hive Inspect?
Ask Hive support. Hive's changelog lists CSV exports for contacts and earnings, but its subscription agreement gives no right to an export when you leave and lets Hive delete data a reasonable period after you cancel, so request everything before cancelling.
Can Househound import my Hive Inspect templates?
Hive doesn't publish a template export. Import a PDF of a recent Hive report on Househound's Templates page, and Autodraft reads it into a draft template and comment library you review. A spreadsheet from Hive support works too.
How do I keep my old Hive Inspect reports?
Open each published report and save its PDF from the report link before you cancel, then upload the PDFs to Househound's past-report archive (Reports → Archive → Past reports), where they're read-only, searchable and shareable. Hive publishes no bulk report download, so ask Hive support if you need many.
Does Hive Inspect refund unused time?
No. Hive's subscription agreement says there are no refunds for unused time; cancelling takes effect at the end of the current term.
Do my Hive clients and agents move over?
Yes, from the CSV Hive support sends you. Import it on the Househound web dashboard under People → Clients or Agents → Import contacts…; a contact whose email is already saved is updated rather than duplicated.
Does Househound move my data for me?
No, there's no done-for-you migration. The template import, contact import and past-report archive are self-serve. If a file doesn't come through, email hello@househoundusa.com with it.
